Dissertations
Dissertations can be a useful resource and model for your own work. All UM dissertations and theses are listed in MNCAT. You cannot search by department, but you can add 'thesis phd' to your keyword search to find theses on a specific topic.
Theses from UM, along with those from CIC (Big Ten) institutions, are available since 1997 by way of Proquest.
You can limit your proquest search to specific institutions in in four ways:
- In advanced search you can search for 'university of minnesota' as school name.
- If you check 'full text' you will search only the University of Minnesota and the rest of the Big Ten for 1997+.
- If you click on 'databases selected' you can limit your search to 'Dissertations & Theses @ CIC Institutions' for all years.
- Also in advanced search you can search for a specific thesis advisor.
One exception is MIT. Their recent dissertations and selected older ones have been digitized.
