Journal Cancellations in 1996/97

The Science & Engineering Library at Sciweb

In fall 1996, the Science & Engineering and Mathematics Libraries cancelled a total of 156 journal titles, which constituted 8% of their serials expenditures for 1995-1996. This cancellation project was undertaken because the acquisitions budget for the physical sciences, mathematics, and engineering increased by only 2.6% this year, yet journal prices are anticipated to rise by about 10%. In addition, the 2.6% increase was made with nonrecurring funds, which will disappear in 1997/98.

The list below is comprehensive and covers all cancelled titles in the Science & Engineering and Mathematics Libraries. Please note that computer science and engineering titles were not included in this year's cancellations project because the former engineering librarian, Ray Bohling, who has since retired, cancelled significantly more in 1995 than any other subject librarian. He did so with the intention that such a large percentage would cover price increases through 1996/97.
