Three robots, three student groups…a battle of the intelligent versus the artificially intelligent.
Robotics take over the library! Check out the latest creations of artificial intelligence and robotics from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota. Live robot demonstrations will follow exciting presentations by the students who helped to build them.
* In addition to the robotics demos we will have demos in the Virtual Reality Lab of Prof. Victoria Interrante in Walter 107.
The Robotics and AI group
http://www.cs.umn.edu/research/research_areas/robotics_and_ai.php focuses on small and miniature robots connected by a wireless communication network, cooperating to accomplish their given mission. Not only is the robot's physical design important, but the research group also focuses on the wireless communication network which allows the robots to work in collaboration to complete a common goal. Like any good Sci-fi movie will tell you, by combining forces the robots can accomplish things faster and cheaper than a single robot.
See a preview of the demonstrations which the groups will present at this year's SCImagine! event at http://distrob.cs.umn.edu/demos.php

SCImagine emphasizes the Science & Engineering Library's role as an intellectual gathering place on campus. Each spring, the Library showcases University teaching, learning and research in the physical sciences and engineering, offering fascinating presentations and lively discussions.
