On-Site Use of the Library
The library houses a comprehensive collection of technical books, journals, maps, and industry standards. Increasingly the collection is electronic rather than print, but visitors can use nearly all of our E-journals, E-books, and licensed databases.
- Computers -- Guest work-stations are provided to support research, study , and professional activities.
- MNCAT Plus, the University of Minnesota Libraries catalog lists all the books and journals we own. It is freely available both on and off-campus, though many of the URLs will not work for non-affiliates located off-campus.
- Printed Books & Journals -- these can be used and photocopied in the building.
- Storage -- much of our older print collection has been moved to a storage building. When you find in MNCAT that the item you need is in storage you can request that it be retrieved for your use. Usually this will take just a few days.
- Online Books and Journals -- we make every effort to ensure that citizens of Minnesota can access our growing collection of electronic books and journals. You can print from these resources, often download to a flash drive, and sometimes email results to yourself. Collections include IEEE, ScienceDirect, and JSTOR, among many others.
- Electronic Databases -- Nearly all of the databases we license -- like INSPEC, Compendex, Georef, and others -- are available for public use.
